Mali's Gold Seizure: Impact on Barrick Gold

Описание: Mali's military government has begun seizing gold from the Canadian mining company Barrick as part of a revenue-sharing dispute. Recently, three tons of gold, valued at approximately $180 million, were taken from a mine near Kayes and transported to the capital, Bamako. This action follows a warning from a Malian judge and is part of a more significant legal battle over money owed to the state. In December, Mali issued an arrest warrant for Barrick's CEO, Mark Bristow, on money laundering charges and ordered the company's gold reserves to be seized. Additionally, four senior executives from Barrick have been arrested and are still being held. This situation reflects Mali's efforts to increase its share of revenue from foreign mining companies as the country grapples with poverty, hunger, and ongoing violence.
