In a high-intensity early-morning operation, combined teams of 36 Assam Rifles and 21 PARA (Special Forces) neutralized four armed insurgents of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) – a non-Suspension of Operations (non-SoO) Kuki militant group – during a search operation in Khanpi Village, Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur District, Manipur.

The encounter erupted around 6 AM when security forces, acting on credible intelligence about the presence of illegal UKNA cadres in the forested area, launched a cordon-and-search mission. The militants opened fire first, triggering a swift and decisive response. Sources confirm four insurgents have been killed, with the death toll likely to increase as combing operations continue in the surrounding hills.UKNA, which refused to sign the 2008 SoO agreement, has been actively involved in highway extortion, death threats to civilians, kidnappings, and other unlawful activities, severely disrupting peace in Kuki-dominated regions. This operation follows recent reports of UKNA targeting village leaders and intimidating locals, escalating tensions in southern Manipur.

No casualties were reported among the security personnel. Arms, ammunition, and incriminating documents were recovered from the encounter site. The operation underscores the resolve of Indian security forces to dismantle non-SoO armed groups and restore stability in the violence-hit state.
