I was surprised when Jim air cooled prior to quenching during the anneal. I'm sure that to get to full anneal, one must quench above 1400 deg. People might be interested in reading Mark Grimwade's paper on Annealing. You can find it in The Santa Fe Symposium on Jewelry Manufacturing Technology papers published in 2003 page 63-98. access is free on the Santafesymposium.org website.
