Every minute, somebody somewhere in the world dies by suicide - but until the moment of death, there is hope. In her talk, Pooky explains how each and every one of us can help to prevent deaths by suicide by being prepared to have an awkward conversation about suicide.
Pooky has struggled with thoughts of suicide since she was a young child - she draws on this experience and explains how hard it can feel to face a lifetime of emotional pain but that with the support of someone who cares, it can be possible to continue one minute at a time.
Watching this talk might help you to save a life someday… surely that's worth a few minutes of your time?
Pooky is a well-respected face of child and adolescent mental health. She has worked with a wide range of schools, charities, businesses and policy makers. She leads by example and is well-networked, widely published and has a reputation for fostering collaboration and change, especially in her role as vice chair of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition.
Pooky is proud of many things – her daughters, her PhD, her track record of delivering mental health projects that really make a difference… But more than any of that, she is proud that each minute she has fought to live the next; even when PTSD made suicide feel like the only answer.
