Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again surprised at the name of Om Birla. On Tuesday, BJP's Vice President of Rajasthan BJP and Kota-Bundi announced for the second time MP Om Birla as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha Speaker's post.

Birla is also considered as a favorite of the Sangh. There is a direct connection between Modi and Shah. Gujarat and Bihar's in-charge Bhupendra Yadav and Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu are also considered close. Birla's relationship with Shah was strengthened when Shah was conferred with Gujarat in the UPA Government. After this, Shah lived in Delhi for a long time. Om Birla got a place in many committees in the 2014 Lok Sabha. He was made a member of the estimate committee, petition committee, energy related standing committee, advisory committee.

The BJP has also been social engineering behind Om Birla being placed on this post. In fact, Mahajan has been the traditional vote bank of BJP. In the previous tenure of the Modi government, Sumitra Mahajan of Madhya Pradesh was elected as a Lok Sabha Speaker.

This time the number of ministers in the center is less in the state. Last time six ministers from the state were made ministers, but this time only 3 ministers have been made. The state has given 25 seats out of 25 for the second consecutive time. For this reason the MP of the state has also been nominated as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Birla had already known about 10 days earlier that his name was being decided for the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. But they did not allow anyone to know it.

Even in his family and staff, this information was given to one or two people with the instruction that they would not discuss it anywhere.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Om Birla was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Om Birla, two-time MP from Rajasthan's Kota, was elected after Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed his name on Day 3 of Lok Sabha session.

Om Birla's nomination for the Speaker post was backed by all the NDA allies. The Congress and Trinamool Congress also supported Om Birla for Speaker.

His candidature as the Speaker was supported by all major parties including Congress, TMC, DMK and BJD.

Prime Minister Modi addressed the House and heaped praises on Om Birla.


PM Modi said, "It is a matter of great pride for the House and we all congratulate Om Birla Ji on being unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Many MPs know Birla Ji well. He has served in the state of Rajasthan as well."

"I remember working with Om Birla Ji for a long time. He represents Kota, a place that is mini-India, land associated with education and learning. He has been in public life for years. He began as a student leader and has been serving society since then without a break," said PM Modi.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was appointed the leader of Congress on Tuesday, urged the new Speaker that the House should abide by democratic practices.

Chowdhury said, "We believe in discussion, dissent and decision and we expect our right to be reserved. In parliamentary discussions, we must avoid ordinance route, because it is against democratic norms."

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, BJP's Om Birla defeated Congress's Ramnarayan Meena with a huge margin of over 2.5 lakh votes in the Kota-Bundi Lok Sabha seat.

Two-time MP Om Birla (57) has been MLA from Rajasthan thrice.
