In this never-before-seen scene from the Starz 10 part docu-series America to Me, English teacher Jessica Stovall questions leaving the teaching profession because of her experiences with antiblackness. She goes to her undergraduate alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, to see her informal mentor and education research legend Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings. Although Steve James filmed this clip in 2016, the advice Dr. Ladson-Billings provides teachers is timeless, as we all remember why we push that elephant.
