Ever needed a custom slotted fretboard? This video shows how to print out a customized template in seconds, and then how to use it to slot a fretboard in minutes. No luthier should be without this program. Whether you make guitars, mandolins, ukuleles, mountain dulcimers, lutes, or banjos, this program will instantly calculate the fret positions and print out a template to position them - even on a standard printer. The template will span multiple pages as needed.
Creating your own Fret Scales:
Creating a fret scale is as easy as entering the distance between the nut and the bridge on your instrument. Usually, it is better to create your fret scale after you have built your instrument, because often there are small irregularities in construction which slightly change the length as you go. You may also change the number of frets if you like. The program keeps track of the length of fretboard that you will need and displays it for you.
Optional Settings:
"Output" can be set in decimals or fraction. Generally, decimals are better for metric and higher precision work, and fractions are easier for quick slap up jobs. "Precision" can be set to low, medium, or high. "Units" can be set in inches or centimeters. If you enter a value in inches and then switch to cm or vice versa, the program will convert the scale length that you have already entered. "Distance From" tells the program whether to measure the distance from one fret to the next, or from the nut to the fret. This is useful for those who wish to set distances with a micrometer. (If you do this, don't forget to include the width of the fret into your calculation.)
Click "View Options" to set the calculation constant, and printer orientation.
