Product Info: Dicey Peaks, from Calliope Games, is a dice and tile-based strategy game for 2-6 players, ages 8+. Games typically take 20-50 minutes to play. Included are 6 climber pawns, 6 oxygen marker tokens, 6 oxygen game boards, 29 mountain tiles, and 13 frosted dice. The object of the game is to be the first player to reach the summit of the mountain, but be careful because along the way you'll need to avoid many perilous obstacles, like having enough oxygen, avoiding avalanches, and staying clear of the dreaded yetis. Start by picking an oxygen board, climber, and oxygen marker. Then, lay out tiles to build your game board. With every turn, you will choose whether you want to climb or rest. Choose which 5 dice you want to roll. White dice will get you best results for climbing, dark blue for resting, and light blue will result in equal chances of both. At that point, you can decide to climb or rest or take your chances by rolling more dice. The more dice you roll, the more likely there will be an avalanche or yeti attack. If either of these happens, you bust and lose your turn. With every climb, you will use up oxygen, so always make sure your tank is full enough. When you climb, you'll turn over a tile which may tell you to move forward or back spaces, or to flip over other tiles. Keep climbing, but make sure you always get enough rest. When you reach the summit, flip over a tile, and if you see a flag, you won! You'll want to read the instructions before playing for all the details. The instructions are clear and it didn't take me too long before I was ready to climb that mountain. Dicey Peaks has a nice balance of fun and strategy. Hardcore gamers may find the strategy limiting, but for your everyday game player, or beginning strategy gamer, Dicey Peaks is a game they'll enjoy playing. So grab your pickaxe, take a deep breath, avoid those yetis, and start climbing!
