Bangladesh - Mass Resignation From Parliament

Описание: (30 Dec 1994) Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on Friday (30/12) said that
parliament would continue to function under the constitution,
despite the mass resignation of opposition legislators. Zia also
rejected the claim that after Wednesday's withdrawal of 147 MPs,
the existing parliament had lost its legitimacy. The three main
opposition groups on Wednesday submitted the legislators'
resignations to Speaker Sheikh Razzak Ali, on the grounds that the
government had failed to accept their nine-month demand that Zia
step down and agree to new elections under a neutral
administration. The groups, led by Sheikh Hasina Wajed's Awami
League, have vowed to intensify street campaigns demanding Zia's
immediate resignation.
