Compunction of Heart: The Forgotten Key to Conversion

Описание: Compunction of heart is not gloom—it’s the grace-filled clarity that turns us from sin to God. In this homily we move from the Epistle’s purpose of the Law—given “on account of transgressions”—to the Gospel of the ten lepers (one returns in gratitude), showing why authentic repentance opens the soul to interior transformation and joy.

Along the way we hear the saints: St. Bernard on compunction and perfection; St. Benedict on continual conversion; Bl. Columba Marmion on why many make “little progress” without compunction; St. Francis de Sales and Cassian on sorrow that is peaceful, active, and hope-filled—not scrupulous. We’ll consider the daily examen, frequent confession, renewal of contrition, and living the Confiteor so our hearts are softened, not hardened. King David’s Miserere, Our Lady’s humility, St. Michael’s “Who is like God?”, St. Peter’s tears, and St. Paul’s glorying in weakness all point the same way: repent, give thanks, and lean on grace.
