Sickle Cell Disease ek genetic blood disorder hai jo India ke “sickle belt” regions, jaise Chhattisgarh, mein kaafi common hai. Misty Lakra ko infancy mein diagnose kiya gaya aur despite optimal treatment including hydroxyurea and supportive care, complications continue rahe.
Since no fully matched sibling or related donor was available, a haploidentical bone marrow transplant was planned. After detailed pre-transplant preparation and careful management of post-transplant complications including infections and mild GVHD, the transplant was successful.
Today, 100 days post bone marrow transplant, Misty is clinically stable, free from sickle cell related complications, and showing 100% donor chimerism.
This case highlights the evolving success of haploidentical transplant as a curative option for sickle cell disease.
