Welcome to The TrainAnything Show!! In each episode, TA coaches John and Dylan will be coming to you with a range of training tips, shout-outs, banter, news, guests, and motivational stories to get you through your endurance endeavors.
On this episode, we broke down the real “Big 3” of progress: sleep, nutrition, and body work—and spoiler alert, none of them are sexy, but all of them work. Sleep is the foundation. You don’t grow in the gym; you grow when your head hits the pillow. That’s when muscle repair happens, growth hormone peaks, and your brain finally stops buffering. Skimp on sleep and you get higher cortisol, more cravings, and a faster track to burnout city. We’re talking 7–9 consistent hours in a dark, cool cave of recovery. So we had to ask: when was the last time you woke up feeling actually rested… not just “less tired”?
Then we got into nutrition—aka the Oompa Loompa workforce of your body. Think about it: if your muscles are Willy Wonka’s factory, protein, carbs, fats, and water are the Oompa Loompas making everything run. No raw materials? The factory shuts down. Under-eat and those little orange guys are just standing around like, “Bro, we can’t build muscle out of vibes.” Protein repairs, carbs refuel, fats support hormones, and hydration keeps the whole operation moving. Add in body work—mobility, foam rolling, breathwork, walking—and now you’re maintaining the machine instead of waiting for it to break. Bottom line: you can’t out-train bad recovery. Recovery isn’t weakness—it’s strategy… and probably managed by highly efficient, nutritionally savvy Oompa Loompas.
