Gently seat that rubber housing into the toilet trap—this protects the bowl. Turn the handle while slowly advancing the cable. A soft blockage should clear and the toilet will drain. If you feel resistance building, don’t force it. Forcing can scratch the bowl, break the toilet, snag on the flange, or get the auger stuck in the drain line. Release tension, back off, and try again rather than muscling through.Watch for signs of over-tightening. The cable is a spring—too much pressure can cause it to kink, twist, bend, or pop.
