Another Hollywood Sellout. Cashing on a good old 1987 movie, which was well made by Paul Verhoeven and probably his best work. They should have at least stuck to the same script and character look, but they messes with the whole 1987 movie, like unruly spoiled kids when mommy leaves home, thinking they are smarter or better. They made a darn shame mess out of it. Black armor like Batman? Blue made him more cop like (men in blue), black is too vigilant. This partner being female added a feminine side to a super macho hero as contrast. They didn't want to go "full retard"... or rather full macho...
Murphy storming in without backup, getting caught and slowly shot to unconsciousness with his last words as Murphy... "Buddy, I think you're slime". That whole scene replaced by a rigged car. 1987 Robo has class like a John Wayne character, but this one is like a copy of the new superman character. A regular football loving beer drinking, rig working one of the guys - superhero. Let's dumb down everything. Let's make everything 70-80 IQ wise. Let's appease the common idiots. Hollywood caters to the most common denominator. I the 1978 superman film, superman spent 12 years (from age 18 to 30) in his father's refuge studying, getting rounded up and smart. Then when ready he goes out to save the world. In the 2013 he is naturally moral, just and "all knowing".
I mentioned Murphy's death scene not only because it was a major one in the film but it showed how selfless and brave Murphy was and how evil his enemies where. Making us feel for Murphy. Justifying morally his spree of vengeance and his determination to fight crime like never before. This scene is the essence of RoboCop. 2014 version did whithout it. Yes, we don't need all this heavy stuff, let's just have him look cool and kill all the bad guys mindlessly.
