Did you know there's a contrabassoon maker named Moosmann? In this video, I'll provide some basic information and pictures of the instrument them play the 2nd Minuet from the Bach Cello Suite so you can hear how it sounds.
(DISCLAIMER: I have NOT been paid by anyone to make these videos. They're simply to share info and pictures about the instrument. )
There aren't any videos on YouTube about the different Contra models, so I though I would do a few videos for people who want to find out more about the various instruments out there.
Thanks to Miller Marketing for the instrument and Steve Braunstein for the inspiration. I have only had the instrument for a week but here's what I have found so far:
Overall the instrument is
Light in weight
strong metal keywork
Bell is a bit close to fingers
Foam on the rollers
keywork:
Good low octave mechanisms with Rollers
2nd Octave Key marble is noisy
Mostly rubber instead of cork
Adjustable rod junctions
seals really nicely
bocal is more muted compared to heckle
normal contra bassoon issues like high D and E
Great sound!
That's a Fox contra in the background by the way. I also hope to review the following instruments. Please contact me if you would like to help make this happen. Thanks!
• Amati
• Heckel
• Moennig Adler
• Mollenhauer
• Püchner
Hosted by Jonathan Westerling in Sausalito. Video recorded on a GoPro with audio recorded on a ZoomH4. Thanks to Manu for her guidance. :-)
