UNDAC in Action: Mexico's Earhtquake.
Juan Pablo O'Farrill, Mexican Disaster Response Adviser for the United Nations OCHA, shared with us on the 24th of November 2017 his experience as the Team Leader of the UNDAC mission deployed on September 2017 to support the response to the 7.3 magnitude Earthquake in Mexico.
With him, we got an insight of the work of first responders and search and rescue teams in the immediate aftermath of the disaster.
This UNDAC Talk showcases UNDAC in action: how the teams are deployed, what are their key activities on the ground and how they contributed to the overall response. Throughout the Talk, the role of INSARAG and other coordination mechanisms will be presented shedding light on how the international community embed with the local actors.

Guest Bio:
Juan Pablo was a rescue diver and he graduated as a psychologist at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), specialized in post-trauma and having completed post-degree studies in International Relations and Political Science in France.

He was a teacher at the Development Institute in Mora, where he is still teaching as a guest professor as well as in some other international academic institutions such as the Peace University in Costa Rica and the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands. He worked for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) assessing the socioeconomic and environmental post-disaster impact, and currently he is a member of the United Nations Disaster and Assessment Coordination (UNDAC). Since the Earthquake of Haiti in 2010, Juan Pablo rapidly mobilises to respond to disasters in Latin America and the Caribbean, and other regions of the world, with the aim of strengthening the coordination of the international humanitarian mobilization in case of natural disasters or armed conflicts.
