Great Western Railway Trains at Bedwyn on March 22nd 2025

Описание: 2nd visit to Bedwyn station on the Reading to Taunton Line or known sometimes from Reading to Westbury as the Berks & Hants Line

Featuring services from Great Western Railway plus some Freight

On the day of filming due to engineering works between Didcot Parkway and Swindon meant all GWR services to Bristol and Swansea were on divert between Reading and Bath Spa via Newbury and Trowbridge

Bedwyn was opened by the Great Western Railway company as part of the Berks & Hants Railway in 1862 when the line was opened between Hungerford and Devizes

The station itself is located in the village of Great Bedwyn and situated to the nearest to the town of Marlborough over 6 miles away which connections can be reached via bus services which is also the same distance between Marlborough and the next station west of Bedwyn nowadays Pewsey.

The village of Great Bedwyn being a few minutes walk slightly uphill from the station to the North of the station from Platform 2 direction.

Whilst to the South Behind Platform 1 sits two rivers nearby firstly the nearby River Dun and then further South is Kennet and Avon Canal.

The line itself was re-routed by the Sterts and Salisbury Railway in 1900 to bypass the town of Devizes and allowed Westbury to be the next station West of Bedwyn

It wasn't until 1906 when Pewsey became part of the Reading to Taunton Line

In fact a year earlier in 1905 the line west of Bedwyn was formerly linked via the Grafton Curve to cater traffic for Army Camps from Salisbury Plain which crossed over the Kennet and Avon Canal which became part of the North-South Swindon, Malborough and Andover Railway until it closed in 1961.

At present services are hourly between Bedwyn and Newbury operated by Class 165 Turbos although during the weekday there are a few trains a day that are served by IETs that run beyond to London Paddington which terminate via a reversing siding which is only long enough to accommodate a 5 car IET maximum.

Some Long distance IETs do call here although only a few direct London services a day in either direction on weekdays, although on Saturdays 2 services a day 1 in each direction to and from Plymouth to London Paddington call here with one in the morning and one return to Plymouth in the evening however no direct services call here on Sundays which passengers for London require to change either at the next station at Hungerford or Newbury.
