Fridah Kinyanjui is #LewaWildlifeConsevancy ranger, who represents a group of emerging young leaders in Kenya who are committed to protecting their natural heritage.
Fridah's father, Kinyanjui Lesenderia retired in 2000 as Lewa's Head of Security. She decided to follow in his footsteps and hopes that she can one day fill the position.
"I'm a ranger because I wanted to be like my father, who was one of the founding rangers on Lewa. When they started in 1984, there were only 15 rhinos. Today, we are looking after more than 200 rhinos. I feel like I'm continuing the work he started and it makes me feel very proud."
Today, on World Ranger Day, we honour the women and men who bravely work on the frontlines to protect our planet's threatened and endangered wildlife. We are proud of our community-based approach to conservation, which has paved the way for a new generation of rangers.
