In this project, I'm aiming to build a fully-automatic turntable from scratch. In the past episodes, we went over my past designs, but I think it's time we do some real work on this turntable, now; wouldn't you agree? In this episode, we go over my goal for this project, how I plan to achieve that goal, and begin the real implementation, starting with the lift mechanism.
The lift mechanism is the part that lifts the tonearm up, so it can be queued somewhere on the record, and then lowered. I think this mechanism came out much better than my previous attempt, mostly in terms of reliability. These 5v steppers are pretty powerful for their size, so a task like lifting a tonearm is nothing to these guys.
Now, I'm a hobbyist when it comes to this stuff, so if I'm doing something blatantly wrong, or there's better way to accomplish something I'm trying, I would love to hear your input!
In the next episode that I work on this turntable, I'd like to go all in on the tonearm: Make it look pretty, finalize the parts, add a mount, and so on. Who knows?! Subscribe and we'll find out together!
This project is completely open source, so if you'd like to see the schematics, code, or diagrams of everything I've done up to this point, feel free to check out the GitHub repository: https://github.com/pdnelson/Automatic...
