As a total surprise at the legendary Marquee Club, Genesis performed a gig under the billing of 'The Garden Wall' (the original name for the band far before they even had any recording contract). This was a very special night indeed, as only 500 lucky people had a chance to see this one, which makes for one of the most intimate and unique atmospheres in their live history. This also happens to be one of the best sounding audience recordings of the year. Unfortunately, I'm going to end up sounding a bit harsh regarding my thoughts on this show - while of course still spirited and fun, this show is one of the sloppiest showings of the group this year. During Turn It On Again, Mike's guitar is straight up out of tune for the entire track, and then the usual improv jam during Lamb, is well - a total trainwreck. Without a doubt the messiest version out there, and in general a low-point in their live history. Still though, there's still some gems to be found within in here, which includes some of Chester's most skillful playing I've ever come across, and excellent Supper's Ready interplay too with a particularly gorgeous ending. Interestingly enough, the band have skipped out on Who Dunnit? tonight, and have also swapped the placements of Misunderstanding and Man on the Corner. Huge thanks to Colin Dodd for taping this - as far as I'm aware, this is the first upload of this show to finally speed correct it.
