The principle of variable geometry in the East African Community (EAC) is, first, vaguely understood. Secondly, while it governs different aspects and objectives of integration, its impact is heavily felt in trade and economic integration. Thirdly, its use has occasioned controversy within the EAC, for example: the 2013 Kenya-Rwanda-Uganda ‘Coalition of the Willing’ for infrastructural projects seen as deliberately isolating Tanzania and Burundi, as well as the 2023 Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Kenya and the EU aimed at implementing the modified 2014 EU- EAC EPA.
This webinar is among a series of webinars convened by Jumuiya: East African Community Law Journal. The webinar series aim to keep the world abreast and invigorated about the past, present and future developments at EAC and its implications on regional integration in the continent and beyond.
