Maria-Theresia von Paradis’ Sicilienne was originally written for violin and piano, but cellists in particular have made this her most popular piece. In this recording, MJ Siegert performs the melody on Flugelhorn with accompanist Hyejung Shin.
Paradis, an acquaintance of Mozart and Haydn, was a virtuosic piano player during the height of the Classical Era. She was destined to become blind at the age of three years old, but her music speaks volumes about her ability as a musician and composer despite her unfortunate condition.
