What went wrong in your game?
*Mid game (12:00–18:00):* You banked a very large float (around 13:00–14:00 you had 800–1,000+ food, 1,000+ gold, and 1,000+ wood) but only clicked Castle at 17:00. Your opponent reached Castle at 15:00 and immediately ramped Mounted Samurai and started securing relics, giving them a tech and gold advantage while you were still in Feudal.
*Mid game (12:00–18:00):* A big wood float (about 1.6k–2.4k between 14:00–16:00) wasn’t converted into scaling. You added many palisade walls and a few outposts but no extra town center and too little production, so you neither punished nor matched your opponent’s 14:00 town center and eco growth.
*Time: 18:00–24:00:* The counter switch versus Mounted Samurai came late and incomplete. Crossbows began at 18:00–19:00 in low numbers, spearmen were minimal, and you continued investing into Templar Brothers/heavy cavalry that traded poorly. Meanwhile your monastery was only up at 18:00 while your opponent had already collected multiple relics, extending their gold lead.
*Late game (24:00+):* No clean answer to siege and raids. When mangonels appeared (28:00 and 32:00), you had a siege workshop but no springalds and too little cavalry to dive them. From 28:00–31:00 you lost most of your villagers (down to 24) while still floating 2k+ wood, and you didn’t convert that into defensive fortifications, extra town centers, or enough production to stabilize.
How could you improve?
*Mid game (12:00–18:00):* The moment you have the resources for Castle as Knights Templar, click immediately and align your first Castle units/upgrades with that timing. If you plan to stay Feudal, then spend the bank on more production and pressure instead of floating; avoid taking fights before your upgrade spike or age-up completes.
*Mid game (12:00–18:00):* Turn wood floats into scaling. On Dry Arabia, add a second town center once your army covers you, and/or add multiple production buildings. Use walls sparingly and pair them with actual army growth. Keep villager production continuous.
*Time: 18:00–24:00:* Versus Japanese Mounted Samurai, pick a clear counter line early: either mass archers with the first ranged damage upgrade screened by horsemen, or front-line spearmen with crossbows behind. Pause heavy-cavalry production until your anti-cavalry core is established. Build the monastery as soon as you hit Castle and train multiple monks quickly; escort them to secure relics before your opponent does.
*Late game (24:00+):* The instant mangonels appear, add springalds and keep fast cavalry ready to jump siege. Spread out ranged units and focus mangonels first. Spend wood floats on more production (so losses re-pop fast), defensive fortifications appropriate to your age, and extra town centers if needed to rebuild your villager count. Garrison and re-rally to avoid cascading villager losses during raids.
How do better players handle this?
*Mid game (12:00–18:00):* In the expert match, the Knights Templar kept spending on army and upgrades and ended the game by 13:00—denying the Japanese their Castle Age spike and relic game. Principle: don’t idle on a big bank; either hit your Castle timing immediately or keep pressure rolling in Feudal.
*Mid game (12:00–18:00):* In the expert match at 05:00 a second town center was added while army production continued. Strong players convert early wood into economy and production rather than long chains of palisades, so they can outpace a boom or match it safely.
*Time: 18:00–24:00:* Better players pre-plan the anti–Mounted Samurai switch and have the first ranged upgrade ready as Castle hits. They prioritize relics by placing a monastery immediately on reaching Castle, sending multiple escorted monks so the Japanese don’t lock in a relic advantage.
*Late game (24:00+):* When siege shows, experts react instantly—springalds on the field and/or cavalry dives to remove mangonels, with ranged lines spread to avoid splash. Large resource floats are rapidly converted into production capacity, defenses, and villager rebuilds so raids don’t snowball into elimination.
