Textbook Revisions Repealed

Описание: Last July, high school students dissatisfied with what they perceived as pro-China revisions to their history textbooks and curricula staged protests in front of the Education Ministry. Today, DPP legislators passed a bill requiring the ministry to retract those revisions, originally approved in 2014, and postpone all future revisions of primary and secondary school teaching materials until the new government takes office. The Education Ministry said that it respects the bill passed today and will in accordance with existing procedures submit its planned revisions to the incoming administration’s committee on textbook review for a final decision. The new members of that committee will resume deliberations on any changes to primary and secondary school curricula.
