What's in the bottom of the cup will determine the composition... This painting was a complete surprise to me. I had loaded the bottom of the cup with more white than I realized. So, even though I had a range of deeper, jewel-toned colors, they all got lightened and softened with the white. I had also over-thinned my gold, so it didn't come through as much as expected. You can see the beginning of some gold pearls emerge on the very edge, but there weren't as many as I would have expected. Then, after I had walked away to let it dry, a whole slew of dark-colored cells popped up. Now it almost looks like the profile of a lady, with purple hair. But I think what I love the most about this painting is the deep edge- it is just dripping with all sorts of softened colors. It's really pretty.
This was the last of my Artist's Loft Pouring Medium. I will be experimenting with a new pouring medium for my next series of paintings. But I will definitely double back and use this one again. It brings a lot of depth to the colors and unexpected cells; I didn't add any additives to produce cells. My biggest council when using this pouring medium is to keep your canvas level and check on it often as it is drying.
Thank you for watching me create this beautiful mess! Cheers- Sarita Laroche
Most of my art is available for sale. If you see a video that does not say SOLD in the title, it is likely available. Not every painting shows up on my website immediately. Some paintings are curing before they are listed for sale. Other paintings may have been put into my “unfinished” corner and I am planning to add something to them. Still other just haven’t been properly photographed, cataloged and listed. Feel free to inquire through my website if you like a particular piece.

FAQ:
What is fluid art?
Fluid art painting AKA flow art, is an abstract, painting process, using liquified paints poured onto a surface. The most common paints used are acrylic paints, mixed with a pouring medium and/or water. There are also ready-made, pouring paints available, at many arts and crafts stores.
How long do the paintings take to dry?
About 3 days to be touchable and 30 days to cure before they can be varnished.
Do you have to use a pouring medium?
Yes- some form of pouring medium should be used to help liquify the paints. Although certain artists are able to only use water, it should be used sparingly. Acrylic paints are water-soluble and will break down when too much water is introduced. A good paint medium will maintain the integrity of the paint’s binders. On a molecular level, the acrylic paint and binder molecules will link together, forming a kind of honeycomb structure when it has fully cured.
What are cells? How to Make them or avoid them...
We call the little bubbles of color that pop up cells. When paints are layered, you often cannot see colors that are hiding beneath the top layer. When cells form, those hidden colors break through the surface in lovely patterns. Fluid artists use additives to increase the appearance of cells, such as silicone. They also use heat to bring the cells to the surface. Floetrol, by itself, can also create a certain amount of cells, as well as the paint pouring technique. One way to avoid making cells, is allow your paint to settle for 24 hours before you pour and keep your colors separate as you pour.
