Sharon-Rose Lehlogonolo Khumalo, “the rose of Mamelodi”.
This week we sit down with a striking beauty queen who adorns many hats, including being Miss Mamelodi Sundowns in 2017 and a Miss South Africa top 5 Finalist in 2016.
Our conversation with Sharon-Rose is steered at understanding what intersex means and more importantly, how pivotal representation is.
We also touch on the role of the medical fraternity for the intersex community. Our guest also speaks on social media trolls, as well as ‘pretty privilege’.
Khumalo’s latest project is an international film titled “Who I am not”. A touching and taboo-breaking story about two intersex people trying to figure out what or who determines which gender they should consider themselves to be. Sharon-Rose appears alongside Dimakatso Sebidi, an intersex activist who is also from South Africa. The film has already won several awards including:
• ‘Best Film’ in the “Being Oneself” category at the DocEdge Festival in New Zealand Silver.
• Silver Horn Award for the director of the film at the Krakow Film Festival.
