St Andrews church...stanton-upon-hine heath

Built approximately 12 c...but the village dates back to 1086 which was held by 1st Earl of shrewsbury....Roger de montgomery.
Restored in 17 century.

A well know author live in the village named Mary Webb and buried at shrewsbury cemetery..longden rd 1881- 1927

Another well known author named Barbara coming Carr was buried in the graveyard 1907- 1992.

'Bottled browne'

The church is reported to be haunted by a Elizabeth Browne aged 90 when she died in 1777 and buried near her home in the woods were she was happy ...she was known to the villagers as a wicked women but loved the forest and the woods!

Anyway as Elizabeth was being seen wandering the graveyard villagers thought to gave her a Christian burial and send off!

But maybe disturbing her didn't end well!

Reported to be seen scaring and upsetting locals /passerby while going to church and local farm animals!

Villages thought enough enough I believe clergyman of the faith banished her in a bottle with a wax sealed and cross and buried her in the vestry!

Sooo maybe it's true or legend! But if she was left in the wood were she felt happy. Elizabeth would be a rest...you think!
