Robert S. Brown, Jr., M.D., M.P.H, Chief of the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, discusses the MELD (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) score. A MELD score is used to determine how sick patients are and where they are placed on the waiting list for liver transplants. Dr. Brown also discusses living donor liver transplants as an alternative to patients being on a waiting list and waiting for a "deceased liver" to become available.
