In Module 8 of our Introduction to Excel course, we focus on two areas that cause the most confusion in real-world Excel work: dates and text.
You’ll learn how Excel stores dates as numbers, how to calculate with them correctly, and how to clean, extract, and combine text for proper analysis.
In this session, you’ll learn:
How Excel handles dates and time (serial values & formatting)
Key date functions: TODAY, NOW, DATE, YEAR, MONTH, DAY
Date calculations: durations, age, and missing end dates
Common date errors and how to avoid them
Core text functions: LEFT, RIGHT, MID, LEN, TRIM
Text formatting with UPPER, LOWER, PROPER
Combining text using CONCAT, TEXTJOIN, and TEXT()
We’ll work with practical datasets including employee records, messy customer data, and product codes.
