UNH Law's Warren B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership and Public Policy held its inaugural conference, "The Federal Budget and the Law: Finding a Way Forward," on April 22, 2013. The panel, "Current Realities and Political Challenges," featured Senators John McCain, Kelly Ayotte, Phil Gramm, and Bob Kerrey, and Alice Rivlin (former director of the OMB) discussing past, present, and future attempts to balance the federal budget. Drawing on their years of legislative experience, they debated the political conditions that are needed for substantive steps toward fiscal responsibility.
Ari Shapiro, White House Correspondent for National Public Radio, moderated the discussion. The Peter G. Peterson Foundation sponsored the conference.
