Discover Palawan | Agutaya: Hidden Paradise of the Last Frontier
Agutaya is a small municipality located in the middle of the Sulu Sea and part of the Cuyo Group of Islands in Palawan, Philippines. It has a population of about 12,000 people who primarily rely on fishing and seaweed farming for their livelihood. While the locals used to cultivate two varieties of seaweed, Eucheuma Spinosum and Eucheuma Cottonii, they now only grow the former due to unknown reasons that the government has yet to address. On my visit, I went island hopping with the locals to Alob Island, a small, uninhabited island with pristine white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and camping. The island is a hidden gem and rarely visited due to its remote location, but it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful islets in the Philippines.
The locals rely on farming and fishing for their livelihoods, and the islands are rarely visited by the government. Algiceras has a long stretch of white sand beach called Kasay Beach that is perfect for relaxing and unwinding. Tayay Island, which can be reached by pump boat from Concepcion, has a beautiful white sand beach similar to Boracay's. The Philippines is truly blessed with so many beautiful places, and I can't wait to explore more of them.
