Lady Jane Lumley’s Iphigeneya is a translation and adaptation of the original play by Euripides, dated circa 1550-1553. It is the first translation of ancient Greek drama into English, and the first play by a female author in English. This recording of a staged reading performed at the University of Auckland, on November 7, 2020, was directed by Professor Tom Bishop of the University of Auckland, as part of the symposium “Female Experience in early modern England” held online and hosted at the University of Auckland on November 6-7, 2020. With an introduction by Deanne Williams, York University.

The script was a modernized version of Jane Lumley’s translation prepared by Tom Bishop.
