Today I had the honor of interviewing Dr. Ed Buckner, an American atheist activist who served as president of American Atheists from 2008 to 2010 and had previously served as executive director for the Council for Secular Humanism. He also co-wrote "In Freedom We Trust: An Atheist Guide to Religious Liberty" with his son, Michael.
Last year, Ed welcomed my children and me to an Atlanta Freethought Society event, and also spent a while chatting with me on the phone to get me up to speed on options for atheists in the Atlanta area.
In our interview, Ed shared his journey from his Episcopalian upbringing, to studying various religions, to fully deconverting, to ultimately becoming involved as a leader in the atheist community.
Ed and I discussed various other topics along the way, including the dangers of childhood indoctrination.
