Silicon Road: Human Games! O'Gorman-Macko Varsity Chess Match 2023!

Описание: This video is in our Human Games series! While preparing a preview of the Varsity Chess Match, I noted that Cambridge was clearly hoping to win the toss and choose White on odds! The captain then confounded me by winning the toss and choosing Black on odds! The strategy almost delivered an upset win for Cambridge so you can't argue with success! However, this board 1 matchup was one where I felt the Cambridge player would struggle as Black. The opening was a Slav which was a surprise from Miroslav - I had mainly seen the Queen's Gambit Declined in his games before. Tom's choice was excellent for a tense match: an Exchange Slav where Black was essentially playing only for a draw. Miroslav mixed up 2 plans and his queenside structure collapsed with amazing speed. Tom converted his extra pawn efficiently to give Oxford their first point of the match!
