About one in every 10 calls to law enforcement involves someone in a potential mental health crisis. In many communities across the country, especially rural communities, law enforcement are the only responder to these calls. However, law enforcement officers often do not have the training or resources at hand to effectively help someone whose health and well-being are at stake due to mental health issues. This Quick Take will provide the nuts and bolts of how one state is piloting a statewide program to give rural law enforcement officers immediate access to mental health professionals using technology.
