Ep 1 - Making a Micro / Mini / Watchmakers / Small (screwcutting) Lathe from Vintage Castings - ("mr factotum") from Scatch. #modelengineering #howtomake
This was briefly started many many years ago by an unknown Engineer, passed through a few pairs of hands since with nothing else done to it, until i got hold of it, so i will continue with the small amount of work already done, to finish the lathe in to a Micro / Mini / Watchmakers Lathe with screw cutting capabilities & back geared, everything has got to be made from Scratch including the Back Gears, Change wheels, Leadscrew, Tailsock, Spindle, Pulley's etc etc just to name a few. The casting is very elegant and well made item, with a good foundation to start from.
There were numerous manufactures of these small lathe in Great Britain many moon's ago, to many to name here, so do a search and take a look at the huge seclection of makers and differing shapes, sizes and capabilities.
