Trump's Praise and GOP Criticism of Walz in 2020 Riots

In 2020, after George Floyd's death, Minnesota experienced significant riots. At the time, then-President Donald Trump praised Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, for his handling of the situation. In a phone call with several governors, Trump said he was "very happy" with Walz's actions, saying, "I fully agree with the way he handled it the last couple of days."

During an interview with Fox News, Trump referenced this call, claiming Walz had personally reached out to him for help. Trump said Walz was concerned about potential violence as his house was surrounded by people waving American flags. Trump stated that Walz asked him to publicly support him, which Trump did, calling Walz a "good person."
