This year the iconic & beloved character Miffy turns 70! To celebrate I visited her new exhibition at Leeds museums and galleries before sitting down to create my own illustration, inspired by Miffy's creator Dutch illustrator Dick Bruna
In this video we talk about the life of Dick Bruna growing up in the Netherlands during WW2, discovering Matisse in the city of Paris & finally joining his fathers publishing company as a designer in the 1950s before going onto create one of the world's most beloved characters Miffy after a family holiday. We talk about Bruna's design principles as well as the legacy that lives on after his death in 2017. I had so much fun creating this illustration & talking about one of my favourite illustrators of all time! I hope you enjoy :)
