I originally intended to do the Tableland Circuit stopping at Mount Arthur Hut and Salisbury Lodge. However for a smorgasbord of reasons I changed plans and decided against the second night and headed out from Gordon's Pyramid via the Cloustons Mine Track instead.
Probably the latest I've ever started a tramp (7pm) but I knew the walk to the hut was easy and I would have daylight to spare. We were above what clouds there were and had an excellent spot to view sunset just beyond the hut.
Bivvied just outside the hut on the small picnic area.
Not the best nights sleep and I gave up trying around 5.30 and headed back up the hill to see the sunrise. The early start also meant I was away by 7am and so could complete the climb to Gordon's Pyramid before the heat of the day.
Decided not to continue on to Salisbury Lodge, approx 1 hour away and instead head back down into the valley via Cloustons Mine Track, named after an old gold mine (operational circa 1912).
A steep descent to the bushline then a nice gentle descent to the valley floor, sheltered from the sun all the way.
Finished by following the Flora 4WD track back the to the start. Uninspiring, but still sheltered from the sun, which was nice.
