Indian Queens, Cornwall

Описание: Indian Queens is a village located within the parish of St Enoder in Mid Cornwall. It is part of a group of three villages, the other two being Fraddon and St Columb Major, which all form one large group of villages.
The name Indian Queens comes from the name of the pub here, the Indian Queens Inn, which was built in the Late 18th century. The name 'Indian Queens' can be traced no further back than the 19th century. While the Indian Queens Inn is now closed, part of it still remains, and it is now part of a private house.
Despite the name being recorded no earlier than the 19th century, Indian Queens does have some history attached to it dating from long before then. Within the village is St Francis' Church, a chapelry in the parish of St Enoder, which serves the village. Within the small churchyard of St Francis' Church (which holds the title as the only church in Cornwall dedicated to St Francis) is an Early Christian inscribed stone, dating from over 1,000 years before the name 'Indian Queens' even came into existence.
Indian Queens isn't the only Cornish village to be named after a pub, London Apprentice, also in Mid Cornwall between St Austell and Mevagissey, is also named after the original village pub.
Indian Queens is situated just off the A30, below Highgate Hill, more commonly known by its unofficial local name 'Hamburger Hill', and also stands just off the A39. The village is surrounded Toldish to the North-East, Fraddon to the South, and St Columb Road to the West.
