Three days after Hurricane Ian made landfall in Lee County, Florida residents of Pine Island found themselves marooned and with dwindling supplies. The storm destroyed the bridge in Matlacha connecting the island from the mainland.
Ad hoc efforts by private citizens and few emergency personnel provided transportation and searched for loved ones.
