The Del-Rays (original name spelling with a hyphen) were from Mascoutah, Illinois, which is located just east of St. Louis, Missouri. The band was active from mid to late 1960s. The early version of The Del-Rays was more of an R&B dance band that recorded one 45 for Stax records in 1965. The band played many clubs including "Collinsville Park Ballroom" as the weekly act. By 1968 the band had become more of an R&B/pop band, and they released their second 45, “Lollipop Lady / There’s Always Something There To Remind Me” as “The Delrays” (one word). This 45 features a young 16 year old Michael McConald of The Doobie Brothers fame and was produced by Nick Charles and Steve Cropper on the tiny Arch record label.
