VO 1: In a huge blow to O Paneerselvam and his supporters, Edappadi Palaniswami was appointed as the interim General Secretary of the AIADMK at the party’s General Council meeting on Monday.

OPS was removed from the posts of party coordinator and treasurer and also stripped of his primary membership.

Dindukal Srinivasan was appointed as the AIADMK treasurer in his place. The party also expelled Paneerselvam’s close aides R Vaithilingam, PH Manoj Pandian and JCD Prabakar.

This was done after the General Council passed resolutions to change the party’s bye-laws and remove the dual leadership structure that was brought in following the death of AIADMK’s former supreme, late Jayalalithaa.

The resolution accused Panneerselvam of siding with the DMK and working to weaken the AIADMK.

VO 2: OPS’s set back began on Monday morning after the Madras High Court gave its nod to the EPS faction to hold the General Council meeting and abolish the posts of coordinator and joint coordinator and instead elect an interim general secretary.

The court’s order saw violent clashes break out between the supporters of the two leaders. The workers pelted stones at each other and also burnt posters and banners ahead of the meeting. Videos of OPS supporters’ hitting EPS’ photo with slippers were widely shared on social media. OPS’s supporters also stormed the party’s office and ransacked it. They also allegedly looted several important documents from the party office.

Kolathur District Secretary Krishnamurthy was injured after he was hit by a stone thrown allegedly by EPS' supporters outside the party’s headquarters.

OPS and his supporters protested outside AIADMK’s headquarters in Royapettah and sat in protest while the meeting was underway in Vanagaram.


VO 3: Soon after the meeting, EPS met his supporters who were injured in clashes. He also visited the memorials of MGR and Jayalalithaa to pay his respects. He also used it as a platform to display his show of strength.

Meanwhile, OPS and his supporters continue to maintain their tough stance, saying they will fight it legally. OPS also said that he was expelling EPS and KP Munusamy for acting against the laws of the party and making their own decisions.

VO 4 contd…..Amidst the clashes and chaos, Revenue department officials have sealed the AIADMK’s headquarters, citing it to be a ‘disputed property’. Sec144 has also been imposed in the area surrounding the AIADMK’s headquarters in Chennai.
