The Owen-Maclure 200 bicentennial officially launched on May 1, 2025, with a celebration connecting two communities bound by history: New Harmony, Indiana, and Newtown, Wales—the birthplace of social reformer Robert Owen. Gathered at the Atheneum in New Harmony, participants joined with counterparts across the Atlantic via live video conference for a shared commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Robert Owen and William Maclure's bold social experiment on the banks of the Wabash River.
Featuring remarks by Ann Evans of Heritage Hub 4 Mid Wales, Diane Sanders of Historic New Harmony, New Harmony Town President Jeff Smotherman, Town Council Member and Historic New Harmony Interpreter Rod Clark, and Owen descendant Docey Lewis.
