Bright, playful indie pop from Seattle duo @ChineseAmericanBear “No No Yeah Yeah (不不好啊好啊)” is a rhythm-driven earworm built from infectious melodies, thumping bass synths, and pure joyful experimentation. (Make sure to check them out, like and subscribe!)
Seattle-based indie pop duo Chinese American Bear — Anne Tong and Bryce Barsten — return with their delightfully infectious new single “No No Yeah Yeah (不不好啊好啊)”, released via Moshi Moshi Records.
Built around a playful songwriting challenge — could a song made mostly from the words “no” and “yeah” still be engaging and fun? — the track bursts with melodic ideas, elastic rhythms, and a sense of joyful constraint. The result is a song that feels jam-packed with hooks while staying remarkably light on its feet, driven by a thumping bass synth, heavily processed drums, and shimmering, glitter-like accents throughout.
Known for their quirky, bilingual English/Chinese indie pop, Chinese American Bear craft music that’s colorful, groove-forward, and never too serious. Their sound sits somewhere between Melody’s Echo Chamber, The B-52’s, The Flaming Lips, and a hyper-saturated cartoon world of their own making.
The duo have earned tens of millions of streams worldwide, with features from VOGUE+, Paste Magazine, Under the Radar, BBC Radio, and KEXP, along with major Spotify playlist support including All New Indie, Indie’s Top 50, and Fresh Finds. Their music has appeared in film, television, games, and commercials, and they’ve toured internationally — including dates in China, the UK, and festival stages — alongside artists like Poppy and Greer.
“No No Yeah Yeah (不不好啊好啊)” is pure indie pop joy — clever, colorful, and endlessly replayable.
