🔱 Origin and History
The Rudrāṣṭakam was composed by Goswami Tulsidas, the 16th-century saint, poet, and devotee of Lord Rama, best known for authoring the Ramcharitmanas.
It appears in the Uttarkanda of the Ramcharitmanas, where Lord Shiva blesses King Dasharatha and grants him the boon of divine sons — Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna.

Moved by Shiva’s infinite grace, Tulsidas composed the Rudrāṣṭakam — eight verses of pure devotion glorifying the formless and compassionate nature of Lord Rudra (Shiva).

In ancient times, this stotram was chanted by saints, ascetics, and householders alike — not as a ritual of religion, but as an expression of surrender and love.

It was sung during Rudra Abhishekam, Pradosh Vrat, Maha Shivaratri, and daily meditations to cleanse the mind and awaken inner stillness.

The Rudrāṣṭakam was not written to please the gods — it was written to awaken the divine within.
Tulsidas sought to express that Shiva is not separate from Brahman, the ultimate truth — beyond form, quality, or name.
