I support Alberta independence, and in this video I ask Albertans in Red Deer about gun confiscation in Canada, firearms bans, Alberta sovereignty, and democratic self-determination. I speak directly with people on the ground to challenge assumptions and persuade undecided Albertans through open, respectful conversation.
This discussion was recorded in public at Bower Ponds in Red Deer, Alberta, where people from many backgrounds cross paths. I believe the most important political conversations happen face-to-face, calmly and honestly—not through party slogans, online outrage, or moral condemnation.
A central focus of this video is Canada’s gun confiscation policy and firearms bans, and why this issue has become a turning point for many Albertans. Throughout the video, I ask people whether they support the federal government’s decision to prohibit and confiscate legally owned firearms—and whether Alberta should be expected to accept those decisions indefinitely, even when they were not clearly campaigned on or democratically approved.
This isn’t a simplistic “guns good, bans bad” argument. It’s about process and consent. When billions of dollars of legally owned property can be prohibited through regulation—paired with unclear compensation, expanding definitions, and shifting enforcement timelines that can turn peaceful owners into criminals—it raises serious concerns about democratic accountability, regional autonomy, and trust in federal institutions. I repeatedly test whether it is coherent to oppose gun confiscation while also opposing Alberta independence, or whether independence becomes the only durable way to protect regional decision-making over the long term.
Topics:
Alberta & federal finances
I reference The Value of Freedom from the Alberta Prosperity Project, examining taxes paid, transfers received, and the services Alberta would need to replace if independent—raising questions about economic autonomy and sustainability.
Brexit & the United Kingdom
We discuss GDP, trade frictions, investment, and post-Brexit immigration, looking honestly at which lessons apply to Alberta—and which do not.
Immigration, borders & sovereignty
How political promises diverge from real-world outcomes, and what independence would change for labour mobility and population growth.
China: environment & human rights
Coal and nuclear expansion alongside internationally documented human-rights concerns, and how Western governments apply selective moral standards.
Cultural breakdown & hostility
Canada feels less polite and more hostile than it used to. Quebec separation debates were often met with accommodation, while Alberta independence discussions are frequently met with contempt and even “treason” rhetoric—hardening resolve rather than persuading anyone.
At its core, this video asks a simple question: Are peaceful discussion, persuasion, and voting still respected democratic principles?
If independence is wrong, it should be debated and defeated honestly—not treated as immoral to even discuss. I’ll continue recording these conversations across Alberta because I want to understand this issue deeply, and I believe honest discussion can still move people who are on the fence.
