3 Italian words you didn’t know you KNEW🇮🇹✨ Part 2 Andiamo!
Think Italian is totally foreign?
Think again!
You already use words every day that share the same Latin roots as Italian.
Here are 3 surprising connections that prove it!
1. Dominion
🗣 "He claimed dominion over the land."
👉 From Latin dominus = lord or master.
⛪ In Italian, domenica means Sunday, originally the Lord’s Day.
Same root, different domain!
2. Defenestration
🗣 "The defenestration of the old printer was satisfying."
👉 From Latin fenestra = window.
🪟 In Italian, finestra still means window.
So defenestration literally means throwing out of a window.
Dramatic and linguistic!
3. Capital
🗣 "Rome is the capital of Italy."
👉 From Latin caput, meaning head.
🧠 In Italian, capitale = capital (city), and capo = head or boss.
The capital is the head of the country—makes perfect sense now!
