Promotional film in four parts for the Nederlandsche Heidemaatschappij ("Heidemij"). Comprehensive overview of the work of the Dutch Heidemaatschappij: land reclamation, fish farming, forestry, soil improvement and land consolidation.

Part 1: "Just as it used to be ..." The age of shepherds and turf cutters, which was a time of poverty and deprivation. Heidemaatschappij founded in 1888 changed this through research and education.

Part 2: 'Extraction and improve the culture" Focuses on the use of fertilizer to make the ground fertile; after the sowing, the crops are harvested.
We see shots of hardwood trees being planted. Apart from agriculture and forestry, the Heidemaatschappij is also active in fish farming. In separate ponds, fish (and eels) are cultivated.

Part 3: '''Making grounds accessible, and improving the way land lots are divided”. The activities of the Heidemaatschappij dramatically change the landscape; canals are built to improve water management. The road network is improved, and the land is re-divided into new parcels.
Entire new towns are created, such as the village of Rips in the region of De Peel. Part of the work is done by the unemployed.
