In 2012, the Friendship Center received the 'ARPlusD Award' from Architects Review, a London-based organization, for its beautiful architecture.


Besides, 2016 'Agakhan Award for Architecture' has been received by the architect of Friendship Center, Kashef Mahbub Chowdhury. The award is given by the Switzerland-based Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). Where 384 establishments from 69 countries of the world participated in this competition.

In that competition, an establishment of Bangladesh became the champion in the world. On the other hand, on June 11, 2019, the Minister of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs of Luxembourg, Ms. Paulette Lennert, visited it.


Visitors from home and abroad flock to see the building made of locally made brick masonry. Curious people from far and wide come here just to enjoy the beauty of the architecture and they come here

Various engineering students from the country's renowned Vidyapith Buet come to research this structure and use it as their internship project.

This very attractive and international standard center highlights Gaibandha in the glory of its heritage not only in Bangladesh, but also in the world.

গাইবান্ধা শহর থেকে তিন কিলোমিটার দূরে গাইবান্ধা-বালাসী সড়ক ঘেঁষে, মদনের পাড়া গ্রামে ফ্রেন্ডশিপ সেন্টারটির অবস্থিত। মাটির নিচে নির্মিত এই ভবন উপর থেকে দেখতে অনেকটা প্রাচীন বৌদ্ধ বিহারের মতো।
ভবনের ছাদ আর ভূ-পৃষ্ঠ সমান্তরাল। ছাদে লাগানো হয়েছে নানা জাতের ঘাস। তাই দূর থেকে ভবনটি সহজে চোখে পড়ে না। কেবল চোখে মনে হতে পারে সবুজ ঘাসে আবৃত খন্ড খন্ড কোনো চারণ ভূমি। কিন্তু না, এটি ফ্রেন্ডশীপ সেন্টারের ছাদ।

মদনেরপাড়া গ্রামে প্রায় আটবিঘা জমির ওপর গড়ে ওঠা এ প্রতিষ্ঠানটির আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন করা হয় ২০১২ সালের ১৮ নভেম্বর । সেন্টারে ভবনের আয়তন ৩২ হাজার বর্গফুট। ‘আরবান কন্সট্রাকশন’ নামে একটি ঠিকাদারী প্রতিষ্ঠান ফ্রেন্ডশীপ সেন্টারটি নির্মাণ করেন। ভবনে কোনো প্লাস্টার ব্যবহার হয়নি। পানির প্রবেশ আটকাতে চারিদিকে দেওয়া হয়েছে নজরকারা বাঁধ।
ফ্রেন্ডশীপ সেন্টারটি একটি বেসরকারি উন্নয়ন সংস্থার কার্যালয়। সংস্থাটি চরের মানুষের জন্য কাজ করে। এই ভবনে চলে সংস্থাটির দাপ্তরিক নানা কর্মকাণ্ড।

সুন্দর স্থাপত্য নির্মাণের জন্য ফ্রেন্ডশীপ সেন্টারটি ২০১২ সালে লন্ডনভিত্তিক প্রতিষ্ঠান আর্কিটেক্স রিভিউ এর কাছ থেকে ‘এআরপ্লাসডি অ্যাওয়ার্ড’ পায়।
এছাড়া ২০১৬ ‘আগাখান অ্যাওয়ার্ড ফর আর্কিটেকচার’ পেয়েছেন ফ্রেন্ডশীপ সেন্টারের স্থপতি কাশেফ মাহবুব চৌধুরী। সুইজারল্যান্ডভিত্তিক আগা খান ডেভেলপমেন্ট নেটওয়ার্ক (একেডিএন) এই পুরস্কার দেয়। যেখানে বিশ্বের ৬৯ টি দেশের ৩৮৪ স্থাপনা এই প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করে।

ওই প্রতিযোগীতায় বাংলাদেশের একটি স্থাপনা যে স্থাপনাটি বিশ্বের মধ্যে চ্যাম্পিয়ন হয়েছে। অন্যদিকে, ২০১৯ সালের ১১ জুন লুক্সেমবার্গের উন্নয়ন সহযোগিতা ও মানবিক বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী মিসেস পওলেত্ত লেনের্ট এটি পরিদর্শনে আসেন।

অত্যন্ত আকর্ষণীয় এবং আন্তর্জাতিক মানের এই সেন্টারটি শুধু বাংলাদেশে নয়, বিশ্বদবারে গাইবান্ধাকে তুলে ধরে ঔতিহ্যের মহিমায়....
